Talk about customer service, I like that they keep things human, my sites aren’t sapping their bandwith (yet) and so they gave me a good deal for what costs them nothing. In return I will expand my sites, bring in new customers, contribute to the forums, and eventually pay big dollars without complaint. I strongly recommend these guys for Django and/or Ruby on Rails, they support both.

First time around I experimented with how much control I have. Turns out, alot. Just takes time to figure out what you can mess with. THe forums are absolutely essential if you want to get started. I now administer all my sites purely from shell. Only access control panel to add domains.

The Django stuff is managed a little bit. Basically you use a web control panel to associate a Django instance with a domain. THis sets up a directory and some basic paths. Then you use full shell access to set up your project, modify all Apache settings (you get your own instance) and access the database etc...

First time around I experimented with how much control I have. Turns out, alot. Just takes time to figure out what you can mess with. THe forums are absolutely essential if you want to get started.

Can you confirm what they're like speed-wise? (I presume they must be faster than Dreamhost.....) Plus, do you get full shell access, or is the Django stuff managed in some clever way?

Webfaction definitely know what they're doing. No BS and like everyone is saying, great support. In addition to some Django sites I also host a Plone /Zope site with them and they do a great job there as well. Just being able to find a host that supports Plone is great.
